Pump Tips Or How To "Pay More And Spend Less"

With energy costs going up you may wish to purchase a new pump even if your old pump is still going strong. Why? Because Nelson's has pumps that consume considerably less energy than the older direct drive pumps. While these pumps usually cost more, you will save more money in the long run.

Let's say you have a 1,200 gallons per hour pump running continuously for one month (or a total of 720 hours) and pay $0.095 per kilowatt hour (this information is found on your energy bill). Consider the following:

A $99 pump drawing 550 watts will cost $37.62 to run per month (550 x 720 x .095 divided by 1000). Meanwhile, a more efficient $155 pump drawing 110 watts will cost $7.52 to run that same month (110 x 720 x .095 divided by 1000).

So, the more expensive pump really costs less to own. Choosing the right pump can be pretty bewildering. You need to consider what it is being used for, how big is the pond, the warranty, design, convenience of maintenance and the head pressure of the pump. We'd be happy to help you make a smart choice. --Justin Bristol
