Adding Height To Your Garden

Arbors and Trellises bring your eyes up from the ground and add structure. They can be used to define a space or simply add height. You'll find plenty of arbors and trellises at Nelson's.

How about "planting" some inexpensive Bamboo Poles in the ground for a striking sculpture. I saw this idea in a New Orleans courtyard garden -- each segment of the bamboo was painted a different color and the effect was wonderful. I painted a few poles at the shop just to give you the idea.

Pots not only bring up the profile but they add color and form to the garden, too! Pick a color and repeat it all over the garden or create a composition of different colors and shapes. Pots are not just for the porch; use them directly in the garden, too!

When you dig out that new water garden use the soil to make a Berm. A berm is a low mound, often used to subtly divert foot traffic around an area. That berm can be used for plants that prefer a drier, well-drained soil.

If your yard is fenced, paint it! Instead of letting the Fence fade into the background, draw attention to it's vertical lines with color. You would be amazed at the difference a brightly painted fence will make in your garden. The big secret is to use two colors. Roll on a base coat, then dry brush over it with a complementary color.

Come out to Nelson's where you'll see all these ideas put into practice, and then you are welcome to take these ideas home for your own garden.
