Avoid the heat by gardening when the temperatures are cooler, usually in the early morning or late evening.
To combat the mosquitoes that come out, we've found that Insect Repellant lotions work better than the sprays and last longer too!
Wear long, lightweight pants to minimize the amount of exposed skin.
Wear a Hat--you'll find you'll last longer.
Wear a sleeveless top, it's cooler--but don't forget to use sunscreen on your exposed arms.
Drink lots of water. Freeze a half-full bottle of water, remove it, fill with water, and have a cool drink! It will take about 30-45 minutes for the ice to melt.
Move with the shade while you work.
Do the heavy work early in the morning.
Wait until after a rain to put new plants in the garden.
