  • Avoid the heat by gardening when the temperatures are cooler, usually in the early morning or late evening.
  • To combat the mosquitoes that come out, we've found that Insect Repellant lotions work better than the sprays and last longer too!
  • Wear long, lightweight pants to minimize the amount of exposed skin.
  • Wear a Hat--you'll find you'll last longer.
  • Wear a sleeveless top, it's cooler--but don't forget to use sunscreen on your exposed arms.
  • Drink lots of water. Freeze a half-full bottle of water, remove it, fill with water, and have a cool drink! It will take about 30-45 minutes for the ice to melt.
  • Move with the shade while you work.
  • Do the heavy work early in the morning.
  • Wait until after a rain to put new plants in the garden.
