Summer Fish Concerns
Posted on: Sunday, August 15, 2010
The long days and hot temperatures of Summer mean special concern for your fish.
Fish 1. Check your fish in the morning (see below*). 2. Continue feeding your fish a balanced high protein food. 3. If possible, feed small meals twice a day. 4. Remember to add a declorinator when you top off your pond.
Be prepared for Summer Simmers: Suffocation caused by overstocking the pond with fish is the number one summertime concern. Summertime heat is hard on fish because warm water holds less oxygen than cooler water. Here's how to be on the alert for potential problems: If you have a lot of fish, at least once a month, get up early in the morning to observe your fish. It all of the fish are at the surface gasping, especially around a waterfall or fountain, you've reached a critical point and it's time to take some action, your options are: 1. Add splash like a waterfall or fountain 2. Add an air pump and air stone 3. Build another pond, move some of the fish to it.
