The use of an algicide can cause the oxygen levels to drop in a pond. This is especially critical during the hot summer months, when the oxygen levels are already low. Low oxygen levels can stress and in severe cases suffocate the fish. By following these guidelines you can minimize the effects of algicide use:
Do the math-you must know the number of gallons of your pond to treat properly. Length(ft) x width(ft) x depth(ft) x 7.5 equals the total number of gallons in your pond.
Remove as much string algae as possible before treating.
Treat before 10:00am.
Provide as much aeration as possible.
Ue Barley pellets, Bacteria Activators, Submerged Plants, Snails and Plecos(algae eating fish) to minimize the need to use an algicide.
